About Scotonomics
Scotonomics is an independent website for Scottish school holidays, term dates and exam dates. It is run by a small independent team and is not connected to any council or to Qualifications Scotland.
What we cover
- School holidays and in-service days for all 32 Scottish councils.
- Scottish bank holidays and the local holidays that close schools.
- SQA exam dates, now set by Qualifications Scotland.
- Tools for P1 start dates, school stages and school leaving dates.
We write for parents, pupils and teachers who need a clear date and want to know where it came from. Each page answers one question first, then gives the detail and the source.
How we check dates
Every council date comes from that council's own published calendar. That might be a web page, a PDF or a committee report. We record the date we checked it, and we show that date on the council's page.
If a council has not published a year yet, we say so. We do not fill gaps with guesses or with dates copied from other websites.
Bank holidays come from GOV.UK. Rules on starting and leaving school come from the law and from mygov.scot. Exam dates come from Qualifications Scotland.
Corrections
We correct mistakes as soon as we can confirm them. If a council changes its calendar, we update the page and the date checked.
If you spot an error, tell us through the contact form. A link to the council's page or a note from your school helps us check it quickly.
Independence
We are not part of any council, the Scottish Government or Qualifications Scotland. Your school and council have the final word on dates. Check with them before you book anything.
