What time results arrive

In 2026, Qualifications Scotland sent texts and emails from 8am on results day. Certificates arrived by post on the same day.

To get results by text or email, sign up to My Qualifications Scotland. This is the service that used to be called MySQA. You need your Scottish Candidate Number (SCN) and an email address. Sign up well before results day so your account is ready.

Reading your grades

National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses are graded A to D. A grade D means a score of 40% to 49%, and you are still awarded the course. Below 40% is a No Award.

Each grade is split into bands, such as upper A and lower A. Bands are not printed on your certificate, but your school holds this information.

If your result is not what you expected

The appeals service is free. Use the learner direct appeals service on the Qualifications Scotland website. Or ask your school or college to appeal for you. You need your name, email address, date of birth and SCN.

A senior marker checks your marked work. They make sure marks follow the marking standards, every answer was marked and totals were added correctly. Your grade could stay the same, go up or go down.

You cannot appeal a grade A. You also cannot appeal a result that came through exceptional circumstances, or a course cancelled for malpractice.

2026 appeal deadlines

Appeal typeLearner directThrough school or college
PriorityTuesday 11 AugustThursday 20 August
StandardTuesday 25 AugustFriday 28 August

Priority appeals are for learners whose university, college or training place depends on the result. In 2026, priority decisions were due by Monday 31 August. Standard decisions were due in October 2026.

The 2027 appeal deadlines had not been published by 1 October 2026. Expect them before results day.

Next steps: UCAS and Clearing

If you applied through UCAS, Qualifications Scotland sends your results to UCAS. You do not need to send them yourself.

In 2026, Clearing opened on 2 July. From 10am on Scottish results day, eligible applicants could add a Clearing choice. The last date to add a Clearing choice was 19 October 2026.

If you are holding a conditional offer and missed a grade, contact the university or college straight away. Then decide whether a priority appeal makes sense.

Help on the day

Skills Development Scotland runs a free results helpline on 0808 100 8000. In 2026 it was open 8am to 8pm on 4 and 5 August. It then ran 9am to 5pm on 6 and 7 August.

A results day checklist

  1. Check your SCN and sign up to My Qualifications Scotland before August.
  2. Make sure your school has your current postal address.
  3. On the day, check each grade against what you need for your next step.
  4. Contact UCAS choices or employers if a grade falls short.
  5. Decide on any appeal before the priority deadline.
