Scottish Borders's 2026/27 calendar in brief

Scottish Borders Council runs the schools in towns such as Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso, Peebles, Selkirk, Jedburgh and Eyemouth. Pupils return on Wednesday 19 August 2026, after two in-service days. There is no September weekend holiday in the Borders.

The October holiday is one week, from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October. Monday 19 October is an in-service day. Schools close for St Andrew's Day on Monday 30 November.

Five clusters, including Galashiels, Peebles and Cheviot, also take Tuesday 1 December as their casual holiday. Christmas runs from Wednesday 23 December to Tuesday 5 January 2027. The February break is a full week, from Monday 8 to Friday 12 February.

Good Friday is a holiday, but Easter Monday is a school day. The Easter holidays run from Monday 5 to Friday 16 April. Berwickshire schools close on Monday 24 May, while Hawick and Selkirk close on Common Riding Friday.

There are five in-service days in 2026/27. The session ends on Thursday 1 July 2027, later than most of Scotland.
