Privacy policy

We collect very little personal data. You do not need an account to use this site. We only store your details if you send us a message.

Last updated: 1 October 2026.

Who we are

Scotonomics (scotonomics.scot) is an independent website about Scottish school holidays, term dates and exams. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can contact us through the contact form.

What we collect

When you visit

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request.

Cloudflare uses this data to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks and abuse. It may keep security logs for this purpose. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people from automated traffic.

When you use the contact form

If you send us a message, we store your name, email address and message in the site's database. We use these only to read and reply to your message, and to fix any error you report.

We do not add you to a mailing list. We do not sell or share your details with anyone else, unless the law requires it.

Accounts

There are no user accounts on this site. We do not ask you to sign up or log in.

Advertising and cookies

We may show adverts through Google AdSense to help pay for the site. Google and its partners may use cookies to show adverts and measure how they perform. Where they use your data, adverts may be personalised to your interests.

Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link on the site. You can also manage Google ad personalisation in your Google account settings.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. The site will still work without advertising cookies.

  • Security logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and working.
  • Contact form: our legitimate interest in replying to you, and your choice to contact us.
  • Advertising cookies: your consent, where consent is required.

How long we keep data

We keep contact form messages only for as long as we need them to deal with your message. We review and delete old messages regularly. Cloudflare keeps its logs under its own retention policy.

Where data is processed

Cloudflare and Google may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they rely on legal safeguards approved under UK data protection law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct data that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your data
  • object to or restrict how we use your data
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent

To use any of these rights, contact us through the contact form. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We would be grateful for the chance to sort it out first.

Children

This site is for a general audience, including parents and pupils. We do not knowingly collect data from children beyond what someone chooses to send through the contact form.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if our practices change, and change the date at the top.
