Inverclyde Council runs schools in Greenock, Port Glasgow, Gourock, Kilmacolm, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay. Teachers return on Friday 14 August 2026. Pupils start on Tuesday 18 August, after a second in-service day on Monday 17 August.
A September weekend closes schools on Friday 25 and Monday 28 September. The October week runs from Monday 12 to Friday 16 October. Monday 19 October is an in-service day, so pupils go back on Tuesday 20 October.
Schools close at 2.30pm on Friday 18 December. The Christmas break is two weeks, and schools return on Monday 4 January 2027. February brings a two day mid-term break on 15 and 16 February, then an in-service day.
Easter is split. Schools close for Good Friday and Easter Monday, on 26 and 29 March. The spring break then runs from Monday 5 to Friday 16 April.
May is busy. Schools close for May Day on 3 May and for an in-service day on Thursday 6 May. A May weekend follows on Friday 21 and Monday 24 May.
There are five in-service days in 2026/27. The session ends at 1pm on Wednesday 30 June 2027.
