February holidays 2027 in Scotland
The February break in 2027 falls between Monday 8 and Monday 22 February, depending on the council. Pupils get 2 to 6 weekdays off once in-service days are included.

How long the break is
In most councils the holiday itself lasts 1 to 5 days. Most then add an in-service day, which gives pupils another day at home. Dumfries and Galloway has no holiday days in February, only two staff training closures on 18 and 19 February.
Counting holidays and in-service days together, pupils are off for:
- 2 days: Dumfries and Galloway and North Ayrshire.
- 3 days: most councils, including Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Fife, Highland and South Lanarkshire.
- 4 days: Orkney and the Western Isles. Moray gives 3 days, plus a fourth for schools in six associated school groups.
- 5 days: Clackmannanshire, Edinburgh, Midlothian and Stirling.
- 6 days: Argyll and Bute, East Lothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian.
Common patterns
Monday 15 to Wednesday 17 February
Glasgow, North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, East and West Dunbartonshire, Inverclyde and Highland share one pattern. Schools close on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 February. Wednesday 17 February is an in-service day. Pupils return on Thursday 18 February.
Friday 12 and Monday 15 February
Dundee, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and Shetland close on Friday 12 and Monday 15 February. Tuesday 16 February is an in-service day, and pupils return on Wednesday 17.
Angus, Falkirk and Moray close on the same Friday and Monday. Their in-service day comes first, on Thursday 11 February. Pupils return on Tuesday 16 February.
A full week
Edinburgh and Midlothian close from Monday 15 to Friday 19 February and return on Monday 22 February. East Lothian takes the same week, then has an in-service day on 22 February. Its pupils return on Tuesday 23 February.
Argyll and Bute, Scottish Borders and West Lothian take the week before, 8 to 12 February. Each adds an in-service day on Monday 15 February. Pupils return on Tuesday 16 February.
Early February
Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire close on Monday 8 February, then have in-service days on 9 and 10 February. Pupils return on Thursday 11 February.
Clackmannanshire and Stirling start with in-service days on 8 and 9 February. Holidays follow from 10 to 12 February, and pupils return on Monday 15 February.
Fife and Perth and Kinross have an in-service day on Wednesday 10 February. Holidays follow on 11 and 12 February. Pupils return on Monday 15 February.
Other councils
- North Ayrshire: holiday on Monday 15 February, in-service day on Tuesday 16, back on Wednesday 17.
- Orkney: closed from Thursday 11 to Monday 15 February, in-service day on Tuesday 16, back on Wednesday 17.
- Western Isles: holiday from 12 to 16 February, in-service day on Wednesday 17, back on Thursday 18.
- Dumfries and Galloway: training closures on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 February, back on Monday 22.
Why in-service days sit beside the break
Every council has five in-service days a year. In 2026/27, 30 of the 32 councils place one in February, next to the holiday. Edinburgh and Midlothian use early January instead.
February 2028
Councils with 2027/28 dates mostly keep the same shape. Glasgow closes on 14 and 15 February 2028, with an in-service day on 16 February. Edinburgh and Midlothian close from 14 to 18 February 2028.

Check both ends of the break with your school. An in-service day can add a day before or after, and these days move more often than holidays.
